Why Sell Your Boat at Auction?
URGENCY
Due to the nature of them being mostly crafts for leisure purposes, boats are often deemed as a non-urgent purchase and so an interested buyer can delay any purchase decisions until the timing suits them, which can mean vessels remain unsold for months, even though there is a willing buyer/willing seller in place. An Auction creates that urgency, reduces the buyer hesitation or lengthy negotiations, and provides a defined date on which a vessel will be either sold or not (in the case of a Reserve Price not being met)
COMPETITIVE BIDDING
Although Auction Sites are sometimes seen as a cheap way to buy some products, with boats that have quality and a pedigree, the competitive bidding in real time, can help to push prices to the true market value
VERIFIED BIDDERS
In addition, subject to the size and value of the vessel, we pre-qualify bidders and require deposits or proof of funds. That means your boat isn’t being viewed by browsers — only by buyers ready and able to complete a purchase.
SECURITY AND CONTROL
We work hard to provide you with Security, Freedom and Control. All payments are managed through a contract process and 3rd party ESCROW partners, plus you decide on whether to set a minimum sales price (Reserve) or let it sell in a competitive environment
GLOBAL REACH
Online auctions transcend location. With digital listings, video tours, and broker-led promotion, your boat reaches a wide network of global buyers — expanding your potential price and speed of sale.
How Much Does it Costs to Sell my Boat at Auction?
To enter a boat for auction, a Listing Agreement (see below to download) is entered into confirming the details of the boat and ownership, the pricing policy, and acceptance of the Listing Fee which is calculated as:
Up to £500,000 = 5%
Up to £10,000,000 = 4%
Above £10,000,000 = 3%
If the boat is currently listed with a broker for sale, this amount will be shared equally between the broker and the Auction Site, subject to Seller approval.
NO SALE – NO CHARGE
in the unlikely event that a boat doesn’t sell at auction, nothing is payable to the Auction House and/or any broker (excluding any Listing Fee)
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SELLER
As a seller, you are responsible for:
- Provision of boat documentation, ownership proof, registration and any other documentation required for the vessels size.
- Provision of all information including photos for marketing purposes.
- Provision of Service, Maintenance and Warranty records.
- Management of boat viewing and ongoing requests from buyers.
- Management of the Sale Process following a successful bidding conclusion.
Given the above, it is recommended for larger boats that a qualified yacht broker is engaged in the process. Their professional representation provides your vessel credibility and ensures every detail is showcased to serious buyers worldwide.
HOW DO YOU SET A RESERVE PRICE FOR YOUR BOAT?
All yachts that are entered for Auction will be managed by a professional marine broker who handles the listing details and will provide a market of the valuation of the vessel, which can be used by the seller to create the minimum sale price, or a different price can be decided on, although higehr than market value will reduce the likelihood of completing a sale.
